View Office 2007 Documents In 2003

Filed under: Tips, software — admin @ 8:35 pm

For some unknown reason Microsoft decided to make Office 2007 documents, such as .Docx uncompatible with Office 2003 without a patch. Microsoft could easily have made it so you do not need a patch but alas it is Microsoft.

In order to view .DOCx and other Microsoft Office 2007 files in Office 2003 you must download the patch for Office 2003 from Microsoft. Just download it and run it and you should be fine. Also, you can prevent Microsoft Office 2007 from saving your documents in 2007 format by clicking the windows button at the top left of the screen in Office 2007. Go to Word Options near the bottom of the new window. Click the Save tab at the left and Change “Save Files in This Format” to just .Doc.

Reset Windows Administrator Password

Filed under: Tips — admin @ 8:20 pm

Now here is a quick tip to reset the Windows Administrator Password without knowing the password at all. To do so, Right Click My computer and go to manage. Click Local Users and Groups and select the Account with the password you wish to reset. Right Click said account and Go to Reset Password. Type in your new password twice and you are done!

What if you cannot login to your computer at all? Then I would suggest you look into Ophcrack. It is a bootable Linux CD that will crack your password in a matter of minutes. All you must do is burn the .iso to a cd and boot to it.

PDF Alternative

Filed under: software — admin @ 7:52 pm

Like millions of other computer users, Adobe PDF reader is preferred because you do not know any alternatives to viewing PDFs. Well there is on and it is one of  the best ones I have used for an alternative. It is called Foxit Reader and it is incredibly fast at viewing PDFs, unlike Adobe’s software. Also, why should PDF software be over 20mb big when it doesn’t have to? Foxit thinks so to which is why they designed the software to be light in size and speed. It will open up your documents almost instantly. I promise that once you give it a try you’ll love it.

How To Create Invisible Folders

Filed under: Tips — admin @ 7:30 pm

Did you know that in windows you can create invisible folders that are completely hidden unless you know the specific location of the folder itself. You might want to use it for hiding por- I mean games from your parents or other files.

To do so just right click My Desktop and go to New and Folder. Once we have the folder change the name of the folder by clicking the folder name, pause for 2 seconds then click it again. Then once all the text is highlighted hold down the Alt button and press 0160. After you are done just release the alt button and your text should be gone.

Now what about the folder? Right click the folder and go to Properties. Go to the Customize tab and click “Change Icon.” Scroll across and you should see a part where the there is no icon where there should be. Select it and click ok and then apply.

Yahoo feels the repercussions

Filed under: Business — admin @ 7:07 pm

Not long after Microsoft withdrew their bid for the failing business yahoo, after considerable time effort and in my opinion over priced bids, did yahoo feel the sting.

Share prices in yahoo are estimated to drop by around 23% or more. This is now putting extreme pressure on Jerry Yang to show that his business, which started in a trailer in silicone valley, is actually worth more then the $47 billion Microsoft valued it at.

Yahoo’s shares tumbled more than 23 percent, or $6.67, to $22 in premarket trading which is now $11 dollars a share less then Microsoft was willing to pay. Microsoft, on the other hand, had a 4.3 percent rise in their shares recuperating the 10% drop it had from worrying investors.

I don’t like Yahoo’s search engine, but I do like the fact they told ‘goliath’ no.

Microsoft lets go

Filed under: Business — admin @ 7:04 pm

Microsoft has now, finally, let go of the idea they’ve tried to hold onto for 3 months. For 3 months Microsoft has been trying to buy out yahoo, stepping up its bid from $33 a share to $37 and still yahoo insisted its dying company was, and is, worth more.

Shareholders in yahoo are expressing doubts about the management of the company and shares are expected to drop as a result. Yahoo did get a slight benefit from Microsoft’s bids as investors paid more for shares, hoping for the take over.

Microsoft says that they will become Google’s competitor, although it will take longer due to this minor setback. While investors are crying, I’m fairly happy as Microsoft rarely get told no, kind of like the bully in the playground. And this first setback may be followed by many more.

Microsoft’s dominated too many markets, but then again, I’m not a fan of Google either.
