HIV

Filed under: Health — admin @ 6:23 pm

This dreaded disease has infected many innocent victims, like those who have received blood transfusions with infected blood or have had injections with the same needles that were used on HIV positive people. Several governmental organizations and NGOs are doing a good job in third world countries to treat patients suffering with HIV & AIDS with free medicines, counselling and hospitalization.

There is a lot of social stigma attached to this disease, it is kept under cover by many who are affected with it, and they in turn end up infecting many more, including their spouses who may be innocent victims.

HIV & AIDS has turned out to be the biggest killer of the century and every country is attempting to try and curb its spreading.

If you haven’t been tested, get tested, you might think your fine but there are many ways you could have contracted the disease.

STD’s

Filed under: Health — admin @ 12:24 pm

Sexually transmitted diseases, as the name suggests, are passed on from one person to another through sexual contact.

However finding out who has them is a Herculean task, as not many admit to their way of living and play the innocent. To prevent the spread of these diseases it is necessary to educate the public and to help them to know what causes these diseases and it is necessary to educate people who are likely to pass the diseases onto other unsuspecting people. Not only do they infect themselves, they also infect their partners who may be monogamous. This usually happens when people are promiscuous in their sexual activities and have multiple partners.

The Treasury wants the UK economy to fail?

Filed under: Economy — admin @ 11:09 am

If it wasn’t bad enough that our treasurer didn’t drop corporation tax when businesses were threatening to move, he’s now attempting to force out even bigger companies. For example: HSBC, Vodafone, Astra Zeneca, Glaxo Smith Kline, BAE Systems, British American Tobacco, Shell and BP.

All these companies may move if the treasury abandons its ideas of more tax on foreign income. This warning came when Shire’s move meant the company will pay a tax rate of 12.5% in future, rather than the 28% in the UK.

A spokesman for Glaxo confirmed that its new chief executive, Andrew Witty, attended the meeting.

“We believe that the UK business environment has to be realistic so it doesn’t impair our ability to compete globally.”

In my view it seems the treasury wants the UK to go into recession, surely with the credit crunch in place and the banks not lending you would encourage businesses, not ship them out?

House prices fall

Filed under: Economy — admin @ 12:14 pm

One of the largest banks in England has said that they’ve seen 0.9% decrease in house prices, with higher expected falls in Wales and the West Midlands. Economists have long said that house prices will, eventually, fall. House prices were due to drop, but they couldn’t have started to at a worse time.

The fall in house prices is due to two things: One, the banks aren’t lending any money out so no one is able to buy a new mortgage, and two, the recent movement of large firms such as Yahoo has lowered employment so people are simply having to stay where they are. There’s a simple solution to all of these problems, force the banks to lend money. Forcing the banks to lend money would, of course, help mortgage lending: it won’t help the government pick up any brownie points, but who cares. Personally I think banks should be forced to give out loans at the previous rates, fair or not fair?

India hopes for US revival

Filed under: Business — admin @ 6:13 pm

India is, was, and will probably always be heavily dependent on the US economy. The problem this presents is simple, the US is on the edge of a crisis. There has been heavy investment in the US economy over the recent months in order to rescind the recession and it seems that most of these techniques are working. The best of them is the 0% interest rates that the UK government won’t put into place.

India has been dependant on the US economy for centuries, not just because a fair majority of clothes and items are made there, but also for the trading of goods. Luckily for India, Vodaphone has seen a chance for investment and may, in the future, pull the amount of their needy nature and aid them in becoming a competitive country, much like China. I’m an optimist so I see this happening within the next 4 years, but only time can and will tell.

Recycling

Filed under: Environment — admin @ 6:11 pm

Just the title will probably send half the nation into a deep sleep and cause the other half to shout out. Not unlike thousands, if not millions, of people I’m not really a fan of recycling: why? Well the simple truth is it takes too much time to sort everything out and half the stuff you think you’re recycling actually gets sent to a land fill anyway (bet you didn’t know that).

In fact it wasn’t too long a go a Chinese cargo ship was taking heaps of recyclable material to a china tip, makes you wonder where it really goes doesn’t it.

On the bright side, the UK government will soon be forcing us to recycle, so I guess it doesn’t matter what I think, even if they say they’re the voice of the nation.

Plastic bags, why we love them

Filed under: Business — admin @ 6:10 pm

Lets face it, plastic bags are a multi million pound business and have been for a long time. I’m not simply talking about the 1p Kwiksave bags, but also the designer plastic bags, you know, the ones that come from the shops that have an entrance fee they’re so expensive.

Really plastic bags have a multitude of uses: Holding your shopping, holding bits and bobs around the house in them, wrapping up breakable materials when you’re being cheap, the possibilities are endless. Yet the government wants to ban plastic bags or, at least charge X amount to have a plastic bag. Long gone are the days of free plastic bags.

I guess this might spark either a rise in profits for plastic bag manufacturers (if there’s a mandatory minimal price), or a deficit because they become outlawed; only weakening the economy further.

Are unions necessary?

Filed under: Business — admin @ 6:09 pm

Unions are the bane of a business and the sword of the workers. I’m often asked if I, personally, think that unions are good or bad in terms of public interest. Unions are extremely good in situations where you’re taken advantage of, such things as: working long hours without enough breaks and low pay.

The biggest problem associated with unions is their power hungry attitudes, yes you want more this and that but there’s a limit.

Striking is a big no no in my book, the reasoning behind this is simple: If you strike for 3 days then the company does make anything for those 3 days, therefore, it’s now running at a loss which then means it’s under potential danger of losing its customers . This situation can be disastrous so, in my opinion, the saying ‘everything in moderation’ springs to mind.

Ads vs. Reality

Filed under: Video — admin @ 6:06 pm

Since food is a daily part of our life I would like to present an interesting video for today’s post. Since we always eat out you must be aware of how the food looks on a poster and right in front of you. Here is a video to signify the great difference between then two.
